One of the rather powerful things Ubuntu did (before it jumped the shark and when off the deep end) was to have Ubuntu LoCo groups. This is a powerful way to get the message out since Face to Face is a different level of trust then "some guy on the interweb." There are also a lot of local bitcoin groups for advocacy and introduction. It is a good way to start making coin available while exchanges are still spinning up. I was an Ubuntu LoCo coordinator in 2 different regions, and have done advocacy before. I also did trade shows for Compaq professionally, and set up trade show presences for two other companies I worked for. This is VERY different from your social media promotion, and someone who is good at one may not be good at the other. (My SEO skills are crap) So if this is something you are interested in, _ingsoc has my e-mail. I can help you set it up globally, and costs can be much smaller then you think.
This is a really good idea, Lee. Since we've got a global community forming, the language-specific discussion sections were a step in the right direction (an obvious one too). But it's not enough. Things are starting to get more organised now, having adapted to the level of interest, so we should progress in this direction if there's demand. Feel free to message me about it so we can evaluate and see what's possible. Really curious to learn about your experiences with Ubuntu LoCo and how we could develop meet-ups. I've got a feeling it'll start happening once the code is live and mining kicks in - for a lot of people it's still vaporware.
We can lay out a lot of the framework while still in the "vapor" stage. That way when it hits, things are in place. I will be contacting you privately to sound some things out.
Please do, I will be on the lookout for it. Sorry for the late response to this thread, I should have done that much earlier.
