Hi, Which amd video card with the vega chipset would be best to mine Decred? I just started mining with my 970 gtx video card for fun and get comfortable with mining first. What's the best upcoming video card to mine with decred? Can this still be done effectively on a desktop or do I need 6+ video cards tethered together dedicated towards mining decred? thanks everyone. I'm a mining noob but Love decred and want to learn more and support the network.
Very little is known about Vega's processing power at the moment, so it's really not possible to provide a reasonably accurate answer. I believe that currently, in terms of price/performance vs return, the RX480 is the sweet spot. You can mine with a single GPU as part of a PoW pool, but it's pretty unlikely you'd fine any blocks solo mining with a single GPU.
Like davecgh said, Vega is still in the rumor phase. Also keep in mind, the latest/most powerful card is not always the best card. Other things to consider are the power draw, cost of power per kWh in your area, cost of the card, and heat dissipation/cooling. You can check this site to get a general idea of a card's performance for Decred, which uses the blake256 algorithm. Keep in mind that site's information is submitted by general miners and it's accuracy is at the mercy of each miner's conditions (temperatures, overclocking, PC configuration). Here is also a Decred mining calculator so you can estimate your earnings based on your total hashrate. I don't know the accuracy of it, but there are probably several calculators like it out there that you can compare between. Pool mining will be the way to go so that you're not single-handedly competing against the rest of the mining network.
