The value of Decred has dropped rapidly in the past couple of weeks. Decreds are now worth $1.33 .
Down from a high of around $2.72.

Does anyone foresee an imminent rise in the value of Decred, or is the decline in price anticipated to continue?
What are some event-driven things which could turn Decred around? Any thoughts?

Thinking of buying in at this lower price, but just concerned that the price drop could continue,
and hopeful that there is a brighter future ahead for Decred.

No one has crystal ball (that works). There are many investment strategies and no one can say if Decred will be a success or not. I think it will be in the long run (+3 years) if everything works out. The risk is huge. The reward is unknown.

Common sense: don't invest money you can not afford to loose!!!

Personally: I will invest small amounts, monthly, that I will stake for the long run. !!! This is money I can afford to loose !!!

I was hoping more for some good news ahead, like some new marketplace accepting Decred
in the near future, or some promotional videos in the works for Decred.
If I don't see anything like this coming soon, I will wait before buying in right now. The question
is, how low will Decred drop? Where is the bottom on this?

I think the price should not go far lower. a currency that low both. loses interest in the mining and investors. rather it should go up and be around $2. if it is not profitable it sinks

That's not great for the currency. Can we start voting against any blocks rewarding the decred address from this mining pool, unless they ban the user responsible?

Is there a stratum pool setup working for decred? I thought this was not available yet. I guess it could be custom code and private?

Well this is nothing new. Theft is theft. Early on similar things were done for bitcoin while CPU mining was still a thing.

The beauty of Decred is that you can do that, if the majority of the community wants to. At the moment this mining virus isn't that widespread, but if it started to generate over 50% of the blocks by infecting millions of machines, drastic action might be required. The threat that that could happen might disincentivise malicious actors from trying to create Decred mining botnets.

I'm not saying we *should* do it, merely that we *can*.

Folks, look at the network hashrate plot here:
    https://dcrstats.com/pow

This is nothing new. Do those pikes look natural? Who with a lot of GPUs (1,000-2,000) would turn on his cards basically one by one and just when they are all hashing start to turn them off one by one?

On the other hand those peaks are also not what I would expect from a mining malware. Unless someone has infected machines mostly in a very narrow range of timezones and those are the bots that start mining during office hours in that particular timezone range.

No we can't. It could be one or several private pools. Do we want to shoot at random people in the hope to kill a bad one?

Watch the plot at dcrstats. You will see regularly the "solo miner" hashrate surge, It's "solo" simply because the page doesn't know that or those pools. Now how do you want to "censor" those?

Price just went from $1.30 to $1.70 within an instant (Bittrex). Madness.

Edit: Order book now with 160 BTC bids. Someone pumping it extremely. Buy buy buy :D

Well... the thing is the volume is still so small so if you want to buy 5000 DCR fast it will clear out all the cheap offers in one go.

If you were to "target" bad public pool addresses, this doesn't resolve the problem. Changing addresses is trivial.

Yes, the crazy guy cleared all coins up to 0.004 BTC. A 30% jump within an instant.

Even though it is bad publicity, it is still good publicity in my eyes. It is free news that isnt really malicious unless you have zero computer knowledge on keeping your computer safe.
On the brighter side their are other coins that are more profitable to mine. Why did they chose decred over the other altcoins?

Just to help visualize how much was just thrown at DCR on Bittrex. Appr. 2/3 of this. Disclaimer: It wasn't me.
