I'm extremely interested in this new currency, and although I've heard of Bitcoin and others in the past, I find some of the instructions on how to mine a bit tricky, especially during the early days. It would be good if someone could create a mining Decred for dummies guide, and a buying Decred for dummies guide... I think this will get more 'mainstream' miners/buyers on-board. Cheers.
I believe the devs have taken care to make Decred very accessible... I'm sure there will be mining binaries released for all major platforms and the the community will quickly fill the information void in the unlikely event that one should arise...
I believe we need a "beginners start here thread", which mentions that all technical questions will be answered in x days and links your FAQ. Otherwise we'll have chaos in the subforums.
That's the plan. It has been a little chaotic - we didn't anticipate this much attention so early. Two major events will occur prior to launch. There will be correspondence about the airdrop. This will ask people to use dcraddrgen to generate a mainnet address and come register that information at a link provided - binaries will also be given with detailed instructions. Those who have entered incorrect URLs in the airdrop db, but have entered a correct e-mail, will get an e-mail asking them to fill in the correct details so they can be included as well. Miner binaries will be released for testnet so people can get comfortable with mining and setting up their rigs if they plan on PoW mining. The dates for these events are tentative at the moment - however, nobody will be left in the dark, and adequate time will be provided for everyone to get on the ship before it sets sail. It'll be posted on here, Twitter, reddit, Bitcointalk, e-mailed, and stickied everywhere possible. Having said that, things are looking good and churning along.
Hello . Yes it will. Happy new year! Edit: I`m sorry for the wrong answer, most likely it won't have support for OS X. Not everything is certain at this point.
Likely so... If the devs refer to "binaries" that means they will do the compilation of source code on your behalf...
The miner binaries will be Windows and Linux - since not many people mine using OS X. dcrd and dcrwallet will run on Windows, *nix, OS X, and *BSD. dcrwebwallet will work in your browser.
@shoshin cool How you have get that? I expected to be informed and that all will be informed when it was possible to get a DCRD Adress?
He would have used dcraddrgen. That's been public and open-source for two weeks. This is the same software that will be used when you guys submit your mainnet addresses for the airdrop. Binaries will be given with clear instructions. That's coming in the future and correspondence will be sent to your e-mails before all that happens. Any announcement regarding Decred will go through all of the outlets, you'd be hard-pressed to miss it. Forum, Bitcointalk, Twitter, reddit, and e-mail.
Exactly right! I used dcraddrgen there are instructions at Github describing how to get it compiled. If you prefer to have binaries I strongly suggest you wait for the official ones and avoid getting them from untrusted third party sources...
If you can't figure it out (on windows) shoot me a pm, i just punched my way through it hitting probably every snag you could along the way for a new to git / go user. Thanks @shoshin for point me in the right direction!
Is there any information on how quickly blocks will be mined at the beginning? I haven't been able to find anything related to the rate of solutions yet.
