I noticed that there are a lot of ideas coming from members for development. They include graphics the coin/logo, ideas to promote the project via forums/local contacts, marketing, translating, etc. There is a lot of goodwill in the community, but it feels like at the moment it is lacking direction.

I don't know how much information C0 can divulge at this point (current state of public relations, etc.), but can we try to make some kind of concerted effort for the project contributions? E.g. if we could make some kind of central subforum/thread for different aspects (e.g. "Promoting Decred" or "Translation Tasks", "Wiki development") we might get a lot more done. Right now there's a lot of motion but it's chaotic, would be great to see all that energy used purposefully.

Ok so I literally thought about this and also will ask further question. As far as I understand there is about 160000$ that will be focused on further needs of developing the project. This money will be used in such contributions. The team is small and they didn't expect this much of a user response over night so we should be patient in the future since there are 19 days until release, I bet is chaos over there :p. So yeah, I guess we should wait for a proper announcement to come in further days.

Yeah, we're definitely just a bit busy over here at the moment :)

We are definitely open to arranging the forums/subforums in whatever way people think will be most productive and simplest, but at the moment of course, code is the main priority as we work up to the launch.

Having a project of my own that was SlashDotted, all I can say is "Enjoy the ride!" The chaos will taper off in 2-3 weeks, and you will know who will stay. You will get a lot of good people, and a lot of "drive-bys" as well. :) Just do your best to communicate and ride out the storm and you will come out in a better place at the end.

And those of us that have been there before will wait. :)

Everything seems so unstructured right now and creating a roadmap (project management), listing all the upcoming tasks and features, could be a great idea. If @_ingsoc could create a page and list some of the most basic ToDo's and from there out, individual threads could be made for each task and from there, sign up.

Listening all tasks & features would also allow new users to see what's happening in the community and see that there is a community to back the coin up.

The team is mostly focusing on the code lines at the moment but i`m sure the forum will look better in the upcoming week :).

Agreed, the team should be focusing on the code up till release. However the reason I think a roadmap would be great, was it would allow people to follow, see what features are being worked on and the process on each feature/project making everything more transparent - compared to Bitcoin.

Helping where I can, but until the code is opened, there is little we can do. :) As things get more settled, there will be more places to help.

That's how it should be, just thought of maybe some basic framework so as not to let the energy here go to waste. Might help the project out to have that many more directed contributors.

Here's another idea: I think there should be some kind of technical brief close to/along with the launch. Whether that's set up as some sort of online chat or email, there needs to be a way for those of us who want to help to get up to speed on development progress. Should definitely set up a good Q&A session or have a brief document to outline the status quo.

@anvoice: There is a technical brief here.

Along those lines, one of the things I would very much like to see is a Decred developer guide that provides an in-depth treatment of the concepts involved. That is something I suspect the community could help with organizing for most of the concepts which are already familiar due to their overlap with Bitcoin. I would expect from there, the Decred developers can provide feedback on the sections which don't overlap with Bitcoin such as the Proof of Stake system, cold staking and decentralized stake pooling, stake voting fundamentals (e.g. how rewards are influenced, incentive structures, how vetoing blocks works, etc), usage of Schnorr signatures, and the development subsidy system.

Saw that, what I meant is a "technical briefing", should have worded differently. Basically an update on what work was done so far and what needs to be done.

I think your suggestions are probably most appropriate for the wiki, whenever that gets developed. But that's definitely needed too.

    Hello anvoice!

Per your suggestion, we will be centralizing these efforts immediately after launch. This is actually a required step in setting up the dev org to pay contractors to complete work for Decred.

We haven't settled on a format for the dev org requests for proposal (RFPs), but I expect either the forum or a wiki would be an ideal place to start the process.

Just to plug a thread. I've put up a brainstorm request for user groups here on the forum. This will help users identify areas of contribution so we can connect on projects, collaborate, and get organised.

Good to see things are starting to happen. Assuming the community forming here has genuine enthusiasm, their contribution should prove substantial in the general effort to introduce and improve Decred.
