Is it possible to mine decred coins using CPU?
Is there any other way to POW mine instead of GPU mining?

It is possible, but also pointless, the hashrate would be so low you'd burn out your mobo before mining a block.
Only GPU mining is worth it for now.... Until someone makes a blake ASIC

I'd look into stake mining if I were you. It has far better returns for money invested. In the last three weeks, I mined from 282 coins from the airdrop to 350, using nothing but an 8 core ARM SBC that cost 70 dollars.

    Whatever I want.
It's not a contest, but if it was I would totally be winning.

In what way? If you mean PoW mining, I don't care, as you invested in a good graphics card at one point or another. And if it's PoS mining, statistically totals should work out to be the same. Also I did not put all of even most of my airdrop into mining. Again, no competition of course...

no, PoS. If you must know, my mining rig is cheaper and my current earnings are higher (though now that I think of it, I did sell 34 DCR worth of merchandise, which closes that gap).

Like I said though, it's not a competition, and 100DCR in 2 weeks is nothing to sneeze at.

Just waiting for pools to come up.
I just saw somewhere that CPU mining is possible. The thing is difficulty of mining decred coins is less now so I thought for time being it could be useful.

Well, given the current network hashrate is 4.218 Thash/s, and a high-end CPU will get you about 10Mhash/s...

You might find 1 block every 96 years.

    Wooooah!
That's bad. Then I guess I need to wait for stake pools to start some mining.

Even an average GPU will beat a CPU by two or three orders of magnitude. There is absolutely no point to CPU PoW mining whatsoever. Think of it like this: PoW mining is like a race. A GPU is like driving a Bugatti Veyron. A CPU is like the same car but you're pushing it.

If you want to continue the analogy, an ASIC miner is like driving a VW beetle but with a Rocketdyne F1 engine strapped to the top.

For the record: my CPU is reasonably high-end(from 2 generations ago), my GPU is low-end.

CPU mining rate with all 8 threads running: 10MH/s
    GPU mining rate: 84GH/s

So yes. Even a low-end GPU will beat a high-end CPU by a very significant margin.

I was testing mining with my cpu here and i pull around 14.8MH/s.
    Intel Xeon E5-1650 v2 @ 3.7ghz

I have an average of 0.006 DCR per day !

so cpu mining is just a proof of concept ... and for fun.

simply run cpuminer instead of cgminer and connect to a pool.

I'm using pool dcr.maxminers.net. It's the only one that did not give me timeout connection.
