That statement about embargoes and trade sanctions got me worried. Makes sense in case of Airdrop, but what are other ways this "compliance" could happen? What bodies of law are "relevant"? What is the worst case? For example, if USA declares sanctions against Russia, would nodes in USA stop talking to nodes in Russia? Would developers in USA reject patches from Russia? Would stake votes or transactions be rejected?
With hard fork voting coming up, I would like to see these issues handled by the stake holders and not the developers. There will not be a central authority for Decred to make these decisions, so I'm assuming that's the direction we're heading in. Now, whether or not the Decred developers are coerced into writing restrictions into place by good old Uncle Sam, that's another issue entirely. The new code releases would have to be downloaded and installed by a majority for it to take effect though, and it's up to the Decred users to make that happen, not the developers.
