Dear all, I think a nice decred GUI wallet for Windows + Linux + Mac would help the coin a lot. Anybody interested ? I have some experience in the development and I would like to help Decred become the best crypto currency available. But I am mostly a Linux guy, so I need somebody with a MAC to do some tests. I can work with Windows, but if somebody wants to help, even better. Anybody interested ? The core would be Electron Framework version 1.0 recently released. You can get a feeling by trying Atom editor based on the framework. Please download a package for your platform from here : https://github.com/atom/atom/releases/latest Would you consider the platform suitable to create a nice multiplatform GUI wallet ?
Hi @root. I believe a Windows wallet is on the way via RFP-1: https://forum.decred.org/threads/rfp-1-windows-wallet-ui-ux-overhaul.685/ I don't think there is any RFP for Mac or Linux wallets though. There has not been an update on RFP-1 for a long time so who knows what is happening behind the scenes... Looking at the Github page there hasn't been much activity since February.
I am surprised nobody is interested in having a nice GUI wallet, probably that may be the reason of low activity here https://github.com/decred/Paymetheus/graphs/contributors
Work is on-going: https://github.com/jrick/Paymetheus/tree/rfp0001 https://github.com/madferreiro/Paymetheus-Fork/commits/master
Thanks for links, I'll look, but as it is Windows only, I think it would be nice to have a GUI wallet for Mac OS X and Linux as well (and Windows as well). If there is some interest, I can show more.
I was able to compile, but none did work. So is there any curious MAC owner, that would like to help me test GUI wallet please ? Please note Google already bought Pixate (one of Electron based apps). Get for Windows and check the pretty design. Get for Mac OS X and check the pretty design. Any comments are welcome.
Is the Gui for Mac OS X going to work only on Yosemite and El Capitan? I'm still with Maverick! Cheers.
Tried Pixate on friend's Mac (do not know OS version) - looks nice I'm going to go out to buy a Mac for myself
@root I think Electron would make a fantastic front end framework. I was thinking about this myself. Although I have zero web development skill, I've busy working on go backend stuff.
If there are others interested in getting this going, we should put up an RFP for it. Three GUIs may seem excessive, but there's also no guarantee any particular implementation will be liked by all users. It may end up being a really good way to explore the userbase. The fact that cross-platform GUIs are a priority for accessibility makes it very attractive for an RFP as a proper project. What do you guys think?
I think that development of 3 different wallets might be a good idea because there is no guarantee that all features will be implemented in a specific wallet and that it will receive a good support in the future. We already saw this in 10 stakepools experiment. I have already some experience of work with @etherdesign, so I think he will be happy to join the team and draw UI for all wallet windows. So we have at least 1 developer and 1 designer. I think @root , @chappjc and @diegox104 might be interested too, there is a lot of work both on frontend and server sides.
Great, it's good to know there are a bunch of people potentially interested in working on this! It's excellent to see everyone band together and put this idea forward. Since I don't know Electron that well, what are some proposed milestones in order to bring an Electron GUI to fruition? Anyone is welcome to chime in here so we can brainstorm together.
https://github.com/oskca/sciter Is where I'd begin. Not Electron exactly, but similar and with golang bindings. Actually, I see sciter is not open source.
Thank you all for valuable input, although I probably did not understand some comments, I am sorry for my English. I googled a bit, and l found ETH already uses Electron based wallet. I already asked my friend to prepare sample html, I'll prepare Mac/Lin/Win sample electron app in the meantime and share the results. A new RFP, should we decide to create it, may build upon RFP-1 (Windows only wallet) and RFP-9 (Java based wallet). But I'd insist on opensource. Some Ethereum Mist screenshots follow...
It is nice feature of Mist that * takes care of starting daemons * during block download it allows you to check for info and click links forwarded to the web for more info.
I was able to build experimental app, Win and Linux seems fine, I have found an old OS X(MountainLion 10.8) virtual machine and so the MAC OS X test seems to be fine as well Hopefully my web guy gives me some designs soon, so I can post screenshots. So far so good
A week has passed and I have only a small update. I still work on a proof of concept sort of, my web designer did not have a time, and he is leaving for holidays. So I tried to ask somewhere else, we'll see. Installed virtual machines of Mac OS X 10.10 Yosemite and 10.11 El Capitan for tests. Probably not worth the effort, just asking - anybody interested in ARM64 build ?
