http://cointelegraph.com/news/115972/decred-an-innovative-cryptocurrency-or-a-well-arranged-scam So I'm wondering where they're getting this from. Perhaps it's a good publicity chance to answer some of these allegations publicly, will also help build confidence in Decred. Of course, only the devs can really do that.
Yellow journalism, nothing more than that... It is clear there was no attempt to fact check or do even cursory research. The Decred team should not even bother addressing this. They have asked for nothing and those of us who wish to associate with them do so of our own free will.
Publicity = good, that's why it's worth addressing. Plus it's the first hit googling "Decred". More outreach will make mainstream acceptance that much easier, at the same time letting negative things fly is no good.
“Decred is currently utilizing highly unethical marketing strategies, making it a project with possibly fraudulent intentions” And they never say what those are, or give a citation. Also they mention Decred in the same line as Dodgecoin and Litecoin, but only ;ink Dodge and Lite... Not totally sure it is a hit piece, but it is very badly written with no real substance.
Saw that earlier. Pretty saddened by the fact that the article is generally positive but all the quotes are quite hateful. ETH, NXT, and BitNation with so much fire from out of nowhere. Very surprising since Decred isn't taking any money from anyone, but all those projects did before code was even written - and yet Decred is the scam. Really don't want to be a jerk about it, but that was quite harsh, especially without talking to anyone involved in the project or the community forming here for example. In any case, the claim has always been that Decred will be about developers and deliverables. It should be judged against those. Decred doesn't hold any ill will toward other projects. It was borne out of experiences in the Bitcoin development ecosystem over years of participation. That participation will continue unchanged, but the need to explore new avenues has now become real - and it's exciting. Save the date though, because when Decred stands and grows up, it won't be the type of project that attacks new and little projects. It will look for ways to include and empower those projects - maybe that's what others fear.
You were in https://github.com/ looked transparent programming. I see the futility of your comments. Lee
Ohh you know what they say, there is nothing called bad publicity. And unless there are a few haters, you are doing things wrong...
You misunderstood my statement. I was saying the people behind the article were not transparent, and showed a distinct bias. I quoted their phrase full of wiggle words with no references to back them up.
Gotta take the bad with the good.... There will always be those that find the only way to promote their own interests is by attacking that which they fear. I see this as positive for all involved. If they aren't involved, let them cry all they want. However, even those with the tears know that the project has unlimited potential, as shown here: Bas Wisselink, Co-Founder of NXT Foundation, told CoinTelegraph: “It’s pretty much like any other startup with aims to which it's hard to say ‘no’ to, but once again without providing anything more than plans. Unless this is more than just a plan, it will probably go the same way any airdrop went: it will get dumped and then no interest will remain. After 6 years of crypto, the window for ‘just a plan’ has closed. A project needs to be able to truly offer something new. If it does, it can expect a bootstrap period of at least 2-3 years.” Whether or not you are interested in Decred does not matter. It will be yet another driving force in the financial world. Get ready for what may possibly be the new and improved cryptocurrency Decred. The projected launch date for Decred is January 18, 2016.
It seems like its just someone writing a hate piece to try and discourage others from researching into alternate coins. Saddly most people will probably read that, and not do any research of their own and just believe what that person said. Sighhhh the world we live in today.
i post this here because i don't want to open a new topic for this I saw this on BTCTalk (a bad place lol) : https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1317122.0 "Litecred wants to be intended as Decred side-project. Considering Decred as Bitcoin 2.0, Litecred wants to be Litecoin 2.0" Really?? Is this a copy and paste coin or really a side project?
Thanks for your answer! So users can finally see the difference between a scam and a coin with a healthy project behind. Go Decred!
Way I see it is better to be in on the ground floor and miss nothing than to be late and miss the boat entirely. We risk nothing signing up to see what becomes of this, we risk much waiting a year if it is successful. In the end the simple truth is that investment is a gamble and if you want to earn you must partake. It'd make everyone feel better if those behind it identified themselves or at least identified mods and controlling figures here so that there were at least some names somewhere in the company structure. That said, if there are names and ties to the company it then puts those individuals at risk... catch 22 and the media is beating the hell out it...
I call this the elbow pain. Companies are angry because they will be left out of a large coin. It turns out that they wanted to do exactly as they do with bitcoin, monopolize. Their problem is with the idea of governance and decision making implemented by Decred.
It is normal that arise copies. Every good idea is naturally copied. This means that we are on track.
