Greetings, We are happy to announce that stake pools will commence opening for use in short order. It is up to the operators to launch whenever they feel they are ready. We wished to have stake pools open much sooner but decided that adding fees to properly compensate the operators was necessary. They have gone above and beyond in provisioning servers and learning the necessary methodologies to run a successful stake pool. Fees are charged as a percentage of the ticket reward. We have left it up to the operators to charge whatever they feel is necessary to cover their system administration labor and server costs. Server costs vary greatly depending on the operator's locale, service/hardware used, and number of servers. The stake pool software defaults to 7.5% but as the price of Decred waxes and wanes it's hard to determine a good baseline that's fair to both user and operator alike. We have asked the operators to post in this thread as they launch. Our goal is to keep each pool at around 5% of the total network tickets to protect de-centralization of the network. Once the majority of pools have launched, we will add a service that indexes which pools need votes and which do not. Fee and contact information should be plainly visible on each stake pool's home page. We ask that you route pool-specific support issues to the stake pool administrator. For general support like browser issues and clarifications of the instructions, feel free to use the normal support channels such as this forum, your favorite chat service (IRC/Gitter/Slack), and the issue tracker on GitHub. A couple things on using the pools: You will need to be running dcrwallet 0.1.3 or build from the latest source to use the stake pools. Previous versions did not support fees or supported a different implementation of fees. The instructions page for buying tickets on the stake pools notes this as well. It is perfectly fine to primarily use the stake pool as a backup and keep your own voting wallet running 24/7 if you have a secure computer/server to do so. In fact, this is actually beneficial as it adds another propagation path on the network for your vote to travel. As part of the opening of these stake pools, the Company 0 pool that was operating as a test site will soon be gracefully removed from service. This will be announced separately once we've ensured a smooth transition to other stake pool operators. Finally, we still intend to open source the dcrstakepool code after some more rounds of bug fixing and clean-ups. Sincerely, Decred Project
First, I'd like to say thank you to jolan, ceejep, and the rest of the Decred Project team for all the hard work, support and patience they have given to the stakepool operators. This is a really important milestone considering the importance of voting in Decred, so thanks for making it happen! Stakeminer is accepting new members. We're featuring a secure cloud-based solution with redundant wallets on 5 continents using multiple service providers, 24/7 monitoring, and missed ticket investigation. We have run thousands of votes on testnet and over 100 on mainnet so far. Currently the site will show the default look & feel and graphs while we merge the most recent stakepool changes in. We'll post a beta link later today at the top of the site for those interested in getting a sneak preview of the features coming after the merge. Pool fee is set at 7.5%, and will go down once the USD/DCR ratio goes up (unfortunately, we can't buy hosting services yet with DCR, someday!) https://dcr.stakeminer.com j5lo7vgmgrz5xoi3.onion If there are any questions, you can reach us at admin@stakeminer.com or join freenode irc channel #stakeminer. Thanks!
Decred Stake Pool Bravo has opened to the public! https://dcr.stakepool.net/ More details and discussion can be found in the following thread: https://forum.decred.org/threads/dcr-stakepool-net-stake-pool-bravo.3753/. Thanks C0, especially jolan and ceejep! You have both put in a great deal of effort to get the pool software running so well. As pool operators, we hope to show as much support and courtesy with our users as you have shown to us in the last month.
@jolan Well I would like the Company 0 pool to keep operating even with a fee but I understand why it has to stop servicing. I guess transition will be easy with just using the new ticket address for the new pool we will choose to follow and https://stakepool.decred.org/ will keep voting our purchased tickets for some months after a closing announcement. I hope instructions of any possible changes in flags (maybe because of pool fees) for starting dcrwallet for auto buying tickets for pool address will be given from pools. Is there going to be a way of using the same ticket address and script as https://stakepool.decred.org/ with the new pools so we won't have to change anything or using the same address will cause serious problems? Anyway I hope there will be no transition problems. I also think it will be very useful if all new PoS pools status will be added on the first post or in a new thread (if they have an online home page url, if they are on mainnet or testnet, if they are open for registrations).
That is correct. Yes, the instructions for that are already present. That isn't possible due to how it works (1-of-2 multisig, the address you submit and an address from the pool wallet). There shouldn't be as long as everyone moves over. We'll be adding an announcement to the pool's site tomorrow that we will stop accepting new tickets in two weeks.
A few questions- How much is the payment taken by the stakepool? Is it per ticket voted? And so the profit the person using the stake pool gets will become lower. And what are the new commands to be used. I remember some post saying a change of commands to be used for the upcoming stake pools. Can anyone post them here?
Yes Pools will take a % per vote it casts. I think all pools will show clearly what % they will be taking as fee. Users can choose which pool suits them best accordingly.
It is a percentage of the ticket reward when the ticket is successfully voted. If the ticked is missed/revoked, the pool will get nothing which helps motivate the operators to run a successful pool. There aren't new commands, just more to pass to purchaseticket. When you sign up for a pool, there are instructions guiding you through the process. Here's an example from testnet: Import the 1-of-2 multisig script so you can vote on the tickets as well as the pool: Code: dcrctl --testnet --wallet importscript 512102fe82f22f2e5bc1be0b67d85afef87329fc1c4512f30a47ce459c78bd7502ba982102242c5ef69e03804391587724ce44b6c1e03b07b5a43a5d01ac965fc5add1fc1752ae Purchase a ticket: Code: dcrctl --testnet --wallet purchaseticket "default" 20 1 TcjnouAYD4ex5wUjtYG8C63Cnji9RCK7XrU 1 TscdoPDQ13UiQcJzNEto91EvxovYaHajZ3y 7.5 You can also do auto-buying to the pool by using the poolfees/pooladdress flags or by putting those in your config. However, dcrwallet auto-buying will start to be phased out soon in favor of dcrticketbuyer.
Hey PoS miners, please participate in this poll about stakepool fees: https://forum.decred.org/threads/stakepool-fees.3746/ The default value for all pools is 7.5% (or 0.135 DCR)
Opening up another PoS Pool! New users are welcome (and much appreciated) http://stakepool.eu/ Dedicated discussion thread, pool specs and further details: https://forum.decred.org/threads/http-stakepool-eu-new-pos-pool-welcoming-all-users.3752/ Thanks all!
Bravo is officially open to the public. Post above updated, and discussion thread started: https://dcr.stakepool.net/ https://forum.decred.org/threads/dcr-stakepool-net-stake-pool-bravo.3753/ Fees are set to 5%. Thanks again, and happy staking!
By the looks of it, current pools are at: https://dcr.stakeminer.com/ <- 7.5% (already has a large chunk of users signed up, my 2cents) And: http://stakepool.eu/ <- 5% https://dcr.stakepool.net/ <- 5% These last 2 were the newest ones, so both low on user count at the moment. Edit: Updated fee %.
