I certainly will not ignore EMs, however, I am going to focus on established community members we have with established audiences first. If we let the scope get too large right away, it will be harder to "pick the low-hanging fruit" in a systematic manner. Once this model compensating and managing the marketing contractors is established as effective, I will begin adding support for additional languages and regions while refining the model. If you had to pick 2 EMs to work in, what would they be? My brain immediately gravitates to CN and IN, from the list you provided.
i agree with @jy-p we need to take one step at a time, in my view countries from Africa and China should be the next target. They already know about bitcoin or things like m-pesa, so will be easy to migrate. In India, majority of people are yet not knowledgeable even about the traditional digital payments systems and even less so about bitcoin (although its getting attention) so its not yet time for altcoins i think. Also i would refrain from marketing to people in crisis ridden countries as we know that market is too small to be stable and last thing a person in crisis want is to be in a volatile investment. When decred would have some kind of anon/privacy tech it would be much better to market in hostile countries.
I understand, it was just a reminder, not a warning About pick two, I would speak in three: CN, IN and BR. The three are huge countries with gigantic populations and financial systems absolutely controlled by large banking corporations in conjunction with the state. They are nations that lack enormously of economic and individual freedom. And nothing can bring this much-desired freedom so quickly to such people as the crypto-coins. https://cointelegraph.com/news/whil...china-stalls-price-bitcoin-hits-1080-in-india
i donot think so China shouid be one of the first targets http://news.8btc.com/chinese-factors-behind-the-14-billion-marketcap-of-bitcoin
I'm not so sure. China is saturated at this point. They have a lot of BTC infrastructure and they're not going to dump it just yet. Plus, the vast majority of them are traders trying to keep their cash safe from the government. We want to get new markets and markets who will use it as a form of value transfer, i.e. use it to buy/sell goods, not just speculate. As such, India would be a good place. And yes, Africa, especially Nigeria. I won't go into the problems Africa is experiencing because I'll be here all day, but Nigeria has an expanding tech-literate class that might be a good seed location.
Why do eth dev often come to China to participate in various events and meetings? If Vitalik Buterin does not speak Chinese, do you think eth's market value is so high?
Because everyone wants Chinese money? You're saying we should be targeting a market with not one, but two dominating currencies? And I doubt some guys ability to speak Chinese is going to have a huge effect on a coins uptake, but what do I know? At any rate, the good news is it doesn't matter. There's enough people to hit China as well as other markets so go right ahead. I just think we should be hitting greenfield markets, not trying to muscle in to established ones. At least not at first. Once there's some momentum behind Decred, sure, take on China, I just don't think it's a good place to start.
@jinlei, I think that entering the CN market properly will require some additional planning and preparation. The scope of this work is such that I think we should delay it, but only by several weeks. Can you suggest some steps that we should take in advance of starting a CN campaign to prepare, e.g. have documentation and instructional videos in Mandarin? I am also unfamiliar with how to go about reaching users in CN since there are different social and media channels in use there.
We can Publish articles(in Mandarin) to introduce the characteristics and future of Decred in http://www.8btc.com/ http://chainb.com/ http://www.bitecoin.com/ (These sites are China's largest btc information website)
I have sent draft contracts to all the initial marketing team members: @Daniel, @coin_artist, @Dyrk, @Emilio Mann, @Tivra. Some have responded with signed contracts and others I'm still waiting on. I am looking forward to continuing the good work that has been done recently to drive further awareness of Decred. We have not been able to find someone to act as administrator of the forum, so that role will stay with the existing c0 staff until we can find a suitably qualified and motivated individual to fill that role. This role is very important and it must be someone from within our existing community.
The first thing that came to mind after reading the roadmap was - mind blown I am interested in providing outreach, education and marketing to communities in need, and have been immersed in the cryptosphere the last few years... It is quite inspiring to read all these proposals and realizing that #TheFutureIsNow I look forward to connecting and learning from you all!
I am in Orlando, FL but I have made contacts in those areas who are interested in getting involved by educating and on boarding users in their local communities...
Hey. I would like to help in any way possible. And I would suggest marketing in countries like India be given importance. The cryptocurrency market in India is pretty not existent and just a few big companies provide bitcoin trades, if decred makes an entry, knowing the people of India, it would get a lot of users. Please take proper time in considering developing countries rather than developed ones
Why don't you use your spare time to bring that service to the community... I suppose with the press release we will have this exposure needed. Meanwhile, you can do you best at your level...
Hello! I am from Austria. kaqing618 on twitter. I could translate website and instructions into German. Have you already thought about offline marketing strategies? (Flyers, Stickers,...)
