So I was thinking about how transactions work with credit cards currently (in Australia anyway). If I buy something for $10, I pay $10 and the bank/card issuer/paypal, etc takes a small cut from that so the merchant gets slightly less. Merchants if they choose can push that charge to the customer at time of payment if they wish, but it's one way merchants can be competitive.

Currently, Decred seems to only allow for a customer pays system. As in the person sending DCR pays the fee. So If I send 100 DCR to someone the total amount leaving my account would be (example) 100.05DCR. Would it be possible to set it up so that a receiver can choose to pay the transfer fee instead? So 100DCR leaves my account and the merchant get 99.95?

It would be an option and we can keep the default to sender pays and it would give Decred another feature that might be of use for merchants looking to distinguish themselves from the rest of the pack.

The issue there is that a fee is added when you make a transaction and the buyer is the one who makes the transaction. That's a pretty deep assumption of the system (and I think all cryptocurrencies). I guess the seller could work out what they want and the expected fee and charge 99.95+0.05 fee hope that the user pays the appropriate fee.
