So I figured that since we're starting to ramp up marketing efforts, I better shake some of the dust off the docs. Now I'm an old geezer who hasn't used these newfangled tools the young'uns seem to like (like GUI wallets and automatic ticket buyers) but it looks like I'll need to know how they work to be able to write about them. Am I able to use these tools with my current wallet (which is still running the old school CLI from a Linux box) or should I just start a new wallet and/or keep it on test net?
The GUI wallet(s) use the same seed as the CLI wallet, so as long as you have that, you can bring it up without issue and you should see all of your funds available. You will, however, want to avoid trying to use multiple wallets (on the same seed) simultaneously or you'll end up with them getting out of sync which can lead to various issues like your balances not being in agreement and address reuse.
@Shadowlance the automatic ticket buying works fine with the cmd line wallets. And as for GUI wallets, decrediton is getting close to being stable and featureful enough to use on Linux and OSX. If you need any testnet coins to help learn any of them, just let me know, I've got lots.
