The thing is that u need coins to buy tickets. The current price of one ticket is around 18dcr. Without decred coins stake mining is not possible.
Try POW mining to get some coins or purchase them to start with PoS mining

please check this and let me know if this is true
    (
    1. Alternatively, if you do not want the wallet to purchase tickets automatically, but do want voting enabled, you can set ticketmaxprice to 0 or balancetomaintain to a very large number:

      dcrwallet -u user -P password --enablestakemining --ticketmaxprice=0

    2. Now the only thing to worry about is keeping your daemon and wallet connected to the network! Failing to keep either connected 24/7 will result in either the loss of your stake rewards or the continued locking of your ticket funds to a maximum of 40,960 blocks, or 142 days, on mainnet. On testnet, the maximum lockup time is 5,120 blocks and the average time to spend your ticket is 1,024 blocks or 1.5 days. Once your ticket matures, the odds of winning are approximately the same on any block until your ticket is selected.

Everything is correct but the thing is that u need tickets to be able to vote.
What he meant here is that when u have bought a desired amount of tickets and don't want to buy more u can set the maxprice as 0.

P.S- sorry for the late reply.

For the first question I have no exact answer. Any amount should be helpful.
second - POS works this way= U spend ur decred coins to buy tickets. Until the tickets mature u cant use the coins that u spent to buy them. During every transaction a ticket is randomly selected to vote on it. If ur ticket gets selected u will get the coins u spent to buy the tickets back plus a reward (currently its 1.8dcr) minus a small transaction fee.
third- Since the process is completely random u may have to wait for many days. If ur ticket doesnt get to vote even after 5months then ur dcr will be returned.
For POS u will need a system thats online 24x7. If u dont have something like that u can use stake pools like me.
    https://stakepool.decred.org
with say 50dcr u can buy 3tickets at the current price of a ticket.
U can check ticket price here- https://dcrstats.com/

    anything else?
If u feel thankful u can send some coins :p or simple like my post :)

    Lol that was funny man!!
Anyways in stake mining coins are used to purchase tickets.
Shown as -Successfully sent SStx purchase transaction
These coins will be locked until ur ticket gets to vote or after 5months.

U can use getstakeinfo command to see information about tickets u have.
see the guide, just updated that command.
