Yeah, i think we were holding back the marketing until product was ready for early adopter phase. We learned that alpha/beta level product is a bad mix with marketing. People had lots of difficulty without a GUI wallet during launch.

Hm, It also could be the dropping bitcoin price... maybe people looking to invest in more stable currencies as a safe-haven?

yup that is always a factor for altcoins, people who bought bitcoin on the rise eventually learn about altcoins and invest in them.

If we had a phone app that could exchange DCR easily the current cash confiscations in India could be a target market.
Hundreds of millions of Indians have no bank account. Cash is king. The Indian government invalidated all the current large bills. Another medium of exchange would be welcomed?

A huge amount of the volatility in alt coin pricing comes from the BTC price. I would be very interested in what the market would look like for any alt-coin if it managed to de-couple from the BTC market (although I don't see how that could happen right now).

So, you mean we need fiat - alt coin direct exchange? That would be intresting experiment.

It would make the alt-coin's price less dependent on BTC's price no doubt.

Decred cant unless you can remove the fiat->BTC->other coin path. Until that happens we are all dependent upon BTC. I think the exchanges are fat and happy with the method currently in place. They get to double dip for any coin other than BTC on fees. There is no incentive for them to do so.

I did say that I didn't see how it could happen at this point. I agree that the exchanges currently have no real incentive to do it.
