Can anyone please explain to a layman what is the use for decred? 1. Is it a coin, If so where is it accepted? 2. Is it used as a testbed for new tech? 3. Is it used for business purpose? Thank you.
#1 it is a mathmatical collectors item, simply a thing that some have an some don't which has a reletive value to other curency.. it's not excepted anywhere in an official capacity but it still has worth. If a large media site were to enable the trading of media-use rights (music an games etc) then they would amount to a new type of currency as well, they don't for some reason. #2 It doesn't appear to be.. yet, it has massive potential dwelling in it's treasury's though, it is as though they have left the major goal yet to be decided in order to focus upon the foundations that secure the words needed to be spoken as spoken. #3 .. well it's it's own type of business, I don't think many ordinary ones could use it. Frankly I rarely see shops that accept bitcoin let alone an alt-coin with a retained ability to morph into whatever kind of giant it likes.
The question is from December 2017 but I'll answer just in case. > 1. Is it a coin, If so where is it accepted? Decred is supported by several payment processors. Notable is CoinPayments, check the list of merchants here. Other processirs are Wirex and Globee. Some services accept Decred directly, like The Crypto Lawyers law consulting firm or CryptoEmporium shop. > 2. Is it used as a testbed for new tech? Yes and no. It does indeed use some new tech like novel governance model, some improvements over Bitcoin and the upcoming compact filters for more private light wallets. At the same time it is very pragmatic, trying to not change what is known to work good, like many features of Bitcoin. > 3. Is it used for business purpose? See first point. Or please rephrase the question.
