I would love to be able to be part of a hosting pool. My experience level is on the beginner side with the system admin. However I would enjoy learning it with the decred community. So many people are very friendly and helpful here.

Send me a DM would like to discuss forming a team for this RFP. My experience is in server admin and development. Languages: mostly Ruby/Rails and PHP/Laravel. I have some working knowledge of nodejs/express as well.

Bonus experience: I have created my own test blockchain and deployed a basic block explorer on top of it with multiple nodes.

    Greetings everyone!

Could u please provide approx. specs for hardware? Considering some limit for users per pool.

Just thinking 'bout pools setup a little, and it would be very nice to create a verbose technical manual/template for pool set-up, to avoid multi-zoo environments and all possible issues connected to them. Actually I can do that myself, only thing I need is devs experience in running the first one. In particular, which subsystem is a possible bottleneck I/O, RAM, CPU? What versions of MySQL, other DB u advice to use for production today?

Agreed, I would also like to take what you have said one more step further. I think, once that "template" has been nailed down, we should containerize that into a Docker image or at least something similar. That way opening a new pool could be as simple as
    Code:
    docker pull dcrd-stake-pool
    .

I do not have experience with Docker actually, and for such case would offer Clonezilla encrypted image for Debian-based setup. And pure verbose documentation for available BSD systems separately.

Here's an open report on the status for the India (codename) stake pool:

    - April 9th - Basic setup complete, w/geographically disperse wallets & testnet voting.
    - April 18th - Live for a week+, 0 downtime and fully configured with monitoring & alerts.
    - April 19th - Pool Inspection conducted and meeting the expectations/requirements.
    - Present day - Awarded milestone 1 completion.

We will remain on testnet for now, as the backend to support pool fees is nearly ready for testing, and we really want to include those moving forward. Assuming no major roadblocks in the fee implementation, we will shortly switch over into mainnet testing.

It's been a great experience so far. Thank you all! ;)

    Hello everyone!

I'm currently very interested on this as i have a real problem with my "home" staking (living in Venezuela, there's serious electricity shortage) and i'm already investigating how to stake outside on any of my VPS servers.

I currently have 3 VPS servers running different blockchains for certain altcoins, wouldn't mind to add more VPS instances to host a serious decred staking pool.

I have had mining pools in the past, i was the one that setup the first anonymous merged Blake ecosystem pool (NOMP frontend, Eloipool backend) and i'm one of the airdrop receivers, so i'm very very interested on this going through. I also have 20+ years of experience in IT and coding, so that doesn't hurts ;)

Not everyone is reporting status here (apparently 8 are verified). Myself, I just noticed that others were reporting, so I expect most pools are in good shape too.

    Bravo status
    • April 3 - First vote from testnet pool.
    • April 22 - Verification.
    • May 2 - Three (3) independent testnet pools are online for D&D. Preparing for mainnet.
    • May 21 - Mainnet pool open to the public. https://dcr.stakepool.net/

    I have a question.
So far I had been using the official stake pool that came out first. So once one of these pools come up should I join them? Does any pool behave differently than the official pool?
    Any additional benefits here?

Assume these pools are under development until someone authoritative for a given pool says otherwise.

That's okay, my question is will these pool function similarly to the official pool or do they have some additional features?

Oh, they should have the same essential functionality, but it is up to the operators to decide on the added features, look and feel, etc. For example, Dyrk will obviously be integrating some of his dcrstats functionality. Bravo has plans to introduce helpful statistics and network queries. Our primary web developer, @Fsig, will be working to modernize the web design and improve the site functionality and general UX. You can expect similar differentiation from all of the pools.

Stake Pool Alpha... We are quietly bringing this up, but since we are not hosting but running on our own collocated servers, it took a bit longer to set up the infrastructure. it is actually overkill for this stake pool, but not for the value add we have coming later. (What can I say... I am project lead on a firewall, so I am paranoid with security... :) ) We are also not rushing, as we are waiting on the back end changes as well. I suspect that when they are resolved, you will see most of the stake pools open at once. :)

Is there any info page about already deployed pools and those which are in progress, with geo-location data?
