They're not open on mainnet yet (or at least that had been advised). Still testing newly implemented features of dcr software. The organizers plan to post a list of pools. Hopefully it will include geo-location. Bravo's website is in Australia, maybe in the US too if possible.
most of us are waiting the green flag (and some ui improvements for the enduser on the web ui) Im in charge of the tech part of India Pool (pool n°9)
I am more concerned with how config takes some custom work and will it be overwritten with updates? And the fact that for a fault tolarent system, it seems to fail on faults a lot.
it fails a lot less since 1.3.0, but the 1.2.0 dcrd was the worst in term of stability (at least on testnet)... i hope the next ones will stay as stable as this one
I was talking about the pool software. It also has improved a LOT since the RFP started, but it is still complex to set up.
Any thing new compared to the other pools? And isnt the fees too high? Considering the fact that u r a bit late in the race, whats ur winning strategy? P.s - Only https://dcr.stakeminer.com has a high fee of 7.5% all other pools have 5%.
I understand your question, but keep in mind that the pools are capped at 5% of the total ticket pool. Some are filling up... Also, it should be noted that none of us are really in the winning mindset. Although 8% seems high, it's really a small total DCR, and the pools' profit margins are really quite, uh, marginal. There's no winning strategy now, we're just having fun and learning new things in the process.
I didn't mean to be argumentative. Anyway, I didn't get paid personally, no, since I'm not the signer of the RFP -- I'm just helping with sysadmin duty for Bravo. It's just that real life operating costs add up quickly, and they are ongoing, unlike the RFP that was to help with startup costs.
There is no appointment, the pool operators are free to set the fee as high as they want. Technically it is possible to lower the fee with no interference, but it is not possible to raise the fee as this would lead to a situation where stakepool votes won' t be made for old tickets with lower fees and this will result in missing tickets for their users. You can find the specifications and requirements of the RFP here The operators working now for +3 months on their stakepools, investing free time, energy and fiat into this project. Taking the currently biggest stakepool as an example it generated $961 with vote rewards for their users and received ~$50 for providing the service. This do not cover the costs of the server infrastructure and even with capped ticketpool sizes at ~4k this hardly will in the future. So these guys are driven by the decred project and believe in the future while enjoying to be part of the development process. Spending energy and knowledge to put something into the future of decred. The idea of a self funding development integrated into the blockchain and the requests for proposals opens the doors for every adaptor to take part in the process and receive payments to compensate their effords. As far as i can see it is not about profit in the first place because the time i have allready spend with this drove down my volume of sales as a freelancer. Anyways i am thankfull to grep any chance to the upcoming RFPs! Good luck ya' all!
True I and guess people always are in the race only to maximise profits. And once the other pools are full u will get ur chance too. Atb P.s - just curious. How much did u get paid??
Again, not me personally as I'm not a signer or contact on this RFP, I'm just part of a team. But fair question. C0 made an effort to have this be totally transparent: The RFP itself lists the 3 milestones and what payments are to be made. The actual DCR transactions are listed in the "Status and Expenditures" thread. Each team handles it differently, just cover server costs first. I promise you there is little left over at this early point in the pool's history. Nothing... in the red, actually. We proceed carefully, so development and staging requires at least as many resources as the production system. Clearly there's not a lot of money to be made any time soon so this is really driven by enjoyment of coding anyway.
@jyap I suggest you'll also announce it on this thread: "Mainnet Stake Pools Are Launching" since it's on forum announcements although your pool is already included on "Proof-of-stake Pools".
Thanks @zero. Done! Hi @Ayush. I think the others mostly covered this in their replies. In the grand scheme of things 5% isn't that much difference from 8% (or even 7.5%). It also gives a cushion of reducing fees in future. We also have a community of people we have promoted Decred to and who will be using the pool. .. In a few weeks we will likely be one of the pools with the highest number of Live tickets
I'm wondering if this RFP is still open? I'm from South Africa and would be interested in setting up a stake pool.
