I'm putting this here because I don't know where else to put this.

I notice that the amount of spam in this forum is increasing rapidly. There really should be a system to reduce this. I also have some proposals how this might work:
    1. New members (maybe up to 10 posts) should have to wait between post for some minutes and an even longer time between posting new threads.
    2. New members may be required to fill out captchas if they post for example more than 5 times in an hour.
    3. Members who's posts get reported a lot (10 times+) should be required to wait for en even longer time between posts and also should fill out captchas.
    4. Only allow a low amount of registrations per IP address per day.
These are only some suggestions I have to address this issue. If anyone does not like this idea please post a comment with your concern. I also know that this might seem like it would reduce the freedom of speech in this forum and this is definitely not my intention! If you have any other better ideas, please post them.

    Whatever I want.
One suggestion I've heard has worked elsewhere was about a forum that required users to change their avatar before they could post.

I dont think any such measures are needed. One problem with restricting new user is that most people make account when they need help and its frustrating experience if you are restricted while you are desperate. I think a live chat like IRC or Slack will solve this problem and the problem of threads popping up for every odd question. That IMO is better solution than restricting. Also at most times someone of us is online and can report spam and mods can take care of it when they are around. This has worked until now, except for support question thread which i think can be solved with a live chat channel.

I was not referring to users with problems. I posted this because today at around 1:30 GMT i just happened to be online while someone spammed the technical development forum with tons of similar posts. Of course our great mods had the posts deleted and users banned in about 15 minutes but I think tat as decred will become more popular, the amount of real spam mails soon will skyrocket. The current system with reporting spam works fine, but also has some problems. For example I only can report users and posts every 30 seconds which should be enough to report someone who posted something inappropriate but is way too long to report spammers who post like 10 times a minute.

hmm i saw someone complaining on BCT about being banned, i guess that is what you are talking about. I hope we get more mods with time and keep this manual. If someone spams 10 times a minute then it sure is going to be cleaned within minutes even with 1 report or w/o a report. Still lets see what @_ingsoc has to say.

Yea I think there should be a minimum time gap between posts in order to reduce spam.
Though I think as the forum becomes larger, mods will be able to handle any situation. :)

I think some moderators would be a good solution to the problem.

I think there is already a time gap if you post too much. I get errors saying wait 30 seconds before posting sometimes.
