While what you both are writing is right on, and restraint is usually the wise path, the fact remains that the challenges you reference were the heavy lifting. That lifting has already been done by BTC, the pioneer. Good news is that none of what you mention needs be re-solved. The BTC experiment has cleared those initial hurdles once and for all. And the flaws of BTC are well-known.

There will be new challenges, to be sure, but not the same ones. If current infrastructure can be adapted to Blake-256, then even the current ecosystem needn't be reinvented.

No one should get over-excited. The prize will eventually be had by one dominant platform. - MAYBE Decred - maybe not. It is the job of the community to maximize the chance that it will be Decred's. The devs have done a really nice job of that, so far.

There are numerous examples of, "It's the the second mouse gets the cheese." One that everyone knows is the iPod. Apple wasn't the first to market; it was something like the fifth to market - at least three years after the "pioneer". This is common.

For sure, don't put all (or even many) of your eggs in one basket - ever. However, this community can try to emulate what Apple did; recognize the magnitude of the opportunity, learn from the mistakes of our predecessors, and work hard to realize the market here that seems inevitable.

I think we all agree that there is significant opportunity in Decred.

This is good information for people to be aware of. I am in this for the long term, as the team and the community as a whole have proven themselves time and again. I feel I shold also let the community know that I was fortunate enough to purchase my coins on Bleutrade the first day, approximately 2/3 of which I got for 87500 satoshi, and the majority of the remaining coins at 112000. I know the risks involved, and have minimal investment, especially when considering the airdrop offsetting the cost even more, given the potential I see. The coins are for my seven year old daughter, after completing school regardless of value at that time. Of course, this is only a "bonus" potential for her, as her security is already solidified. I don't believe the price is where the true value lies, but with the people behind it. The commitment shown goes well beyond what my expectations were (and they were quite high already), as has the level of integrity displayed here. Any issues that arise, the community and the team come together to find the best solution. As far as I'm concerned, that, alone, is a great return on my investment. My feelings would be exactly the same, even if the value became 1 satoshi.

I want to personally thank you @davecgh for your patience, and help with the wallet. Whenever I reach out to any of the devs, they have responded quickly, and provided me the direction I needed.

I feel you Mike. These guys are truly trying to ensure that Decred is going to be the future go to coin!! The developers continue to amaze me.

 

I am a healthcare professional and heard about Decred from a patients husband. I am so glad that I took his advice and started in the beginning with this project. I have told others about Decred, because I truly believe that this is going to be a very competitive coin. Some people listen, but others only believe in bitcoin. That is ok, because as long as a stay patient and follow the direction of this coin, I believe that the long term results will be great!!!

 

Completely agree. I've thanked them, but I'll thank them again: I had an issue with my airdrop email (I didn't get it, even tho I was added to the db) and Ingsoc completely solved it within a couple hours. All the devs I've seen interact with the community have been really helpful, even when there's no pressure to be, and that says a lot.

 

I can also attest to your story. I ran into the same problem and did not receive an email. @ingsoc PM me and sent me a link before the airdrop. This showed me the commitment of the developers to ensure that everyone who honestly wanted to participate in the airdrop received coins. @ingsoc really won my confidence about Decred and that is why I am here to stay!!!

 

Haha, yup, that was exactly my situation. And yeah, I agree completely. I'm a sucker for idealism, which is part of why Decred attracted me, and the fact it has genuine ideals to live up to at all sets it apart from other coins. They're putting their money where their mouth is. Literally.

I was gonna joke that we sound like we volunteered for the marketing dept, and I realized we actually kinda did (in a way) when we joined the user groups.
