Hi, I am unable to restaure my wallet because of a seed trouble. I've created a web wallet in july on https://www.decred.org/ I have transfered decred in it and now i can't restaure even with the seed. I have copied the 33 words and printed it in order not to have any kind of numerical save of them so to be sure not to be hacked. But now when i try to import via the web wallet my wallet with the 33 words seed it doesn't work. I din't saved any files like HEX or wallet.db. The strange thing is that all my words are in french langage and when i read the technical forum talking about seed trouble they say that all the words must be in the PGP words tab where all the words are in english. I have some accent in those words ( like french langage have ) but even when i remove the accent it doesn't work. If those words must be in english how it's possible that i have the seed in french words by copying them and printed it ?? Can someone help, i will greatly appreciate.
Does your browser automatically translate English to French? This might be what happened. I'd say your best bet would be to translate them back and hope for the best (make sure you get the capitalisation correct). The web wallet is in English as is the PGP word dictionary. It had to be your browser, it would not have come from the wallet. If you can't translate the words back, I'm afraid your credits are lost. Without those words there is no way to get into your wallet. Good luck.
Thanks for you response shadowlance but i've already thought about this case. My browser doesn't translate automatically even if i have used the software words or notpad they are not configurate to translate, i have tried again to be sure. I tried also to translate some words from french to english with google translate but most of the words don't exist in the PGP word dictionary. Even if i try all the different translation proposed by google translate for the same word. I can give you 3 examples of my french words that you can test and tell me if you see an approximation in the PGP words ( I use google translate, but maybe there is a better translater software ). I can give you those 3 words of my seed list cause there is always the 30 other that are secret and those 3 words are not orderly :=) 1) ailier 2) caporal 3) bobard If you don't find the relation between those worsd and the possible translation. Doe's someone have another idea of what happened ? Thanks for advance
English -> French translation may not necessarily means that the opposite will always be the same. I'm afraid you have lost the original seed unless you are very lucky to guess all your English seed correctly by looking at the French one.
I agree with you gravity. But i will still try to hope that someone have another idea. Maybe not related to a translation ^^
So due to an old bug (that has since been fixed) it would show you an invalid seed. I'll write a little script for you to use that will translate your 'french' seed into a proper 'english' seed. I'll keep you posted, but hopefully I'll have it for you today.
@bobby ok just wrote the app to translate your french seed: it's currently at https://github.com/alexlyp/translate_seed If you can: go get https://github.com/alexlyp/translate_seed translate_seed then enter your seed at the prompt, it'll give you the english seed and the seed's hex both are good to save. If you can't use golang to build/run this, let me know what OS/arch you are using and I can build you a binary to run
Many thanks ay-p !! But i'm not relly familiar with computer codes and programs. Can you explain me how to do exactly ? I am using windows 7.
https://github.com/alexlyp/translate_seed/releases/tag/0.0.1 OK posted a release for you with 32 and 64 bit versions. Pick whichever one you need depending on your arch. Open the zip and extract the translate_seed.exe Run cmd (usually you can find it by typing in cmd in the search box at the bottom of the start menu) Change your directory to wherever you extracted that .exe. (cd \Users\(username)\Desktop would get you to your desktop) Then type: translate_seed.exe Enter your french seed and press enter Let me know if you have any other issues.
