Simple low quality render of a 30 second intro to Decred. My first time using After Affects other than for Hyperlapse Warp Stabilization. Not well thought out rushed through it on my lunch. So be kind. Needs Audio which I have no idea on. Donny
Good start. Some of the frames are a bit too rushed I didn't have time to read all of the text. What is the audiance you are targeting with this intro? General population? or crypto-savvy ? It seems to me a lot too technical for a general audiance which is fine unless that is your target. I hope you keep fine tuning it. Something like this can come in handy.
This is great start, the colours are nice but the bounce/spring effect is the only fault I see, they mentioned here they are planning to get user generated content. When the documentation is more complete I'm planning to make short basic tips and guides to make it easier to understand. It would be great if you can help out with the lanuch video in some way, I bet _ingsoc and the rest of the devs would like this.
I'll help out where I can. Does anyone know what font is used in the Decred Logo. I would like to use that font throughout. Like I said before this was just a quick first attempt throw together. Donny
Hi - I'm Eric. This is a great start! I think having some sort of introductory video would be extremely helpful. I also do video/audio production and am based in Chicago. Would be interested in collaborating on a video project of some sort. In general, I'm more interested in narrative/documentary storytelling than explainer videos (but have experience with both). There are a few "madlibs" formatted sentences that can help structure your video content that would be worth exploring here (The focus sentence and the XY sentence). Nailing those introductory sentences are the first step in creating compelling content. I think this might be a good place to start hashing those out. A focus sentence follows this format: (Someone) does (something) because ________________, but __________________. So in this case our focus sentence might be: A group of former Bitcoin developers are launching a new digital currency called Decred because their previous work on Bitcoin has exposed a number of flaws. But how exactly will Decred address those issues? Alternatively, a XY sentence goes like this: I'm doing a video on _______X_________. It's interesting because of ________Y_________. So in this case: I'm doing a video on a new cryptocurrency called Decred. It's interesting because it sets out to solve a number of issues with Bitcoin and has enlisted a large group of early adopters to build a new community of enthusiastic contributors dedicated to Decred's success. Both of those are a bit rough - but you get the idea. I'm sure the core group behind Decred would have some more thoughts messaging/audience.
Glad to see you getting involved here, you have some great ideas and experience and this project is important as it will be a lot of peoples first impression of Decred.
I am going to be brutally honest here, don't get discouraged. It's bland. You've basically taken what's currently on the front page and removed all of the connecting words, and it doesn't tell potential users *why* they should use Decred. There's also no variety in the video itself, you've just got a block that opens and closes a few times with different words on it. You'll lose viewer engagement. I would also dial down the elasticity of several of the objects in the video. Watch this video and pay attention to the content: See how the narrator tries to predict (and to some extent, guide) what questions the viewer will have, and then answer them? Q: Why should I use Dash? A: Because it's faster and more anonymous than other digital currencies. Q: Why should I use digital currency:? A: Because it's faster than cash, and you keep control over your own money. The average user doesn't know or care why the Blake256 hashing algorithm is important(it's really not), they don't understand the significance of the client being written in Go(there isn't any, and actually it harms Decred to a degree because there are fewer programmers who use Go than who use C/++, which restricts the developer pool vs. most other coins). This is part of why one of the first questions I asked when I joined the IRC channel was what makes Decred different from other digital currencies, particularly Go. (_Ingsoc and davecgh weren't able to give me much in the way of concrete answers, but for the most part it's the community-centric approach, which is intended to circumvent the problems that Bitcoin is presently experiencing) What should the viewer care about, and why? See how the graphics have variety? Dash colors themselves are blue and white, but the video has a variety of colors and the images shown are used to reinforce the dialogue. Try to illustrate the message you're sending, don't just make an animated version of the paragraph I can read faster somewhere else, without having to download a 30-second video.
I have to agree with clokworkgremlin here. For a video to be helpful in spreading coins it has to be for the general public. A lot of what is said or should i say written has big computer words that scare away the average person. That video would have been good for the airdrop advertisement but it stops there. I am not trying to bash the video, it is just missing a lot of content and has no way of keeping the viewer engaged or informed.
Wonderful, just the fact that the fate of Decred as improvements to the system to be democratically voted by the community, it's been the Decred the Btc's successor. \o/
After reading ClokworkGremlin's reply, there's really nothing more I can add to the discussion of the content. It's an excellent post. In fact, if you're looking for work Gremlin... please PM me ! A few tips on the technical side: - You already said it's a low quality render. May I ask why you've chosen to do that ? There are some really easy ways to upload a flawless file to YouTube. The foolproof way that takes a little while to upload, but is totally worth it : Upload as close to lossless as you can. Let YouTube take care of the encoding. It's gonna re-encode anyway, so you might as well feed it a really, really high quality file. I always use ProRes, unless it makes the file prohibitively long. Also I seem to see that you have a frame rate mismatch. Make sure you don't take a 24 fps comp and render it as 30, for example. - When scaling layers, be aware of where the anchorpoint is. Use the "pan around tool" ( it's the 6th icon from the top left, next to the cam icon ) and move the anchorpoint to where you want the layer to scale from. For example, some of your words scale from the side while center would have looked better. Or did you scale them in because you didn't know how to make the text attached to the solid that "sprang" out from the Decred icon ? The solution to this would be to pre-compose the solid with the text on top, and then work with that. - Nice use of texture, nice vignette - Don't overdo the bouncing All in all, this is excellent work for a After Effects newbie. You definitely have talent. Feel free to ask me questions any time.
Hello friends, could someone tell me what is the name of the font used in letters DECRED? I'm some designs, Thanks
