When I created a wallet with "dcrwallet --create" it prompted me to enter a passphrase, then it showed me the 33-word seed.

Will I be able to recover the wallet at a later time only with the seed words, or do I need to remember the password as well?

(as far as I understood, the passphrase is used to encrypt the contents of the wallet file, but it doesn't influence the key derivation process; am I right?)

You are right. Till you keep your 33-word seed safe you do not need to worry about anything. Even if you loose your passphrase or password(s) you will be able to restore your wallet with all content (coins).

Yep, the passphrase do not effect the seed words (or seed hex) which is why it is so important to keep those safe.
