Hello, I'm not sure what they are planning to do. It will be a long journey to compete with bitcoins but not impossible. It could it be a possibility to trade btc with decreds but i would only see that happening once decreds getting going and starts to get known.

Long time journey meaning what, 2 years? This can compete with Bitcoin, yes, but it's all about the community since it's self funding. We need people and we need good feedback.

In order to succeed this currency needs to stand out. It needs to be different from all the others. That will be the reason for people wanting to join our community

Bitcoin was meant to be a decentralized form of currency, but it became the opposite due to apparent reasons; and as for the price...there doesn't seem to be a great future for it at present, but who knows? At the same time, it is competing with other cryptocurrencies like Dogecoin, Darkcoin, Litecoin, and Altcoin, and they all on the same ground fighting one another.

At this point of time, I suppose the bitcoin users can still sell them or pay with them (which is still rare, because I haven't seen many websites that accept bitcoin payments), but over the period of time, if DECRED gains enough recognition, everybody might just switch to that.

Then again, there are large corporations and banks who have invested considerable amounts on building bitcoin mining centers, and for the best of their interests, they would do what it takes to prevent it from being so - another factor to be considered is government regulations, but in some countries they are influenced by corporate parties, so we don't know for sure yet.

Why compete? Can Ubuntu "compete" with "Red Hat?" Or is it better to have both, and use the right tool for the right job?

It's like comparing a brand new Mercedes S class AMG full equipped with a Lada. Lets stick to coins and cryptocurrency, if people make something it might also become revolutionary. I`m also pointing out the team is pretty good so you never know what it might show up in those 19 days.

Due to design PoW/PoS, decred is going to be much more stable than bitcoin and also large fluctuations in mining maynot be possible instantly. As per my view, it seems much more superior technically than BTC and thus has much more chances for survival. Also, more openness:) from day 1 will definitely help the project which never happened in bitcoin( and other coins). I would like to place my bet on decred for the short/long term.

I think it would be a good impact for the community if we could get this currency stable. But as we have seen from bitcoin this is not an easy task.

I am relatively new to the Digital Coin world. I have only been mining Cure Coin and BTC for a year now. You can't spend Cure Coin on anything but BTC. I mine it for a good cause. BTC is hard to spend anywhere due to its extreme price fluctuations. All the alt coins in the world won't do a bit of good until some major players accept them as payment. And they won't do that until things are proven and stable. Hopefully because of the way Decred is being designed POW/POS then things will be more stable. A problem with more stable is you may not get as many investors / miners because there will be less potential / risk to make big gains quick. This is ok with me. If I can get in on the bottom for a change then with slow growth over time it will be a worth while investment of time and resources.
So far most of the posts here just rehash the same things and off opinions. Such as this post. There does not seem to be much direction as of yet. I know this will change after the loss. I am telling those that will listen about Decred. My opinion it has lots of potential. Time will tell.

trying to get the word out,
    Donny

Hey Donny, nice thoughts you shared here. Time will tell indeed. But work has been made and I'm sure all this work is not in vain.

I do not think any of us are here to "beat" Bitcoin or any other coin for that matter. Many of us likely see a void in the cryptocurrency space that may well be filled by Decred, the team has put forth some technical and social innovations which will make this a sustainable project and seeks to avoid many of the pitfalls that have been experienced by others.
