As the title said, will an AntMiner S3 work on mining Decred ?
If not, any suggestion on buying a miner for Decred?

    Thanks

No, none of the ASICs that work with Bitcoin will work with Decred. It uses an entirely different algorithm. I'd suggest taking a look at the Who has got their rigs ready thread for discussion.

You can use any Bitcoin ASIC miner to heat your room in winter. But they won't mine you any Decred.

ASIC means application-specific integrated circuit, meaning that someone designed a chip whose sole pourpose was to calc sha256 hashes. It can not do blake256.

First non GPU minners in bitcoin where FPGAs (they are like reprogramable circuits), and someone made FPGA firmware to do blakecoin but it does 8 rounds instead 14 so it will need some tweak to reuse it for Decred.

Thanks all the suggestions above, however I do wonder will there are any miners will be work with mining Decred at the starting point? Without setting up a rig with GPU etc. thanks

You can mine with your internal GPU, without setting up a dedicated multi-GPU rig without case. Just don't do it with your laptop or you will fry it. GPUs in laptops and other mobile devices are weak anyway and not worth to mine with.

Thanks for your reply, however I am a student who study aboard with laptop only, that is why I wanted to setup a miner that I can support in mining and expand my knowledge on mining. Thanks.

Then let's hope the miner that will be released can be throttled, in which case you would run it at 50% or something and your laptop should be okay.

Your problem will however be the stable uplink, if you are really "aboard" ;)

Indeed, since I am finishing my education this year and willing to go back in time, that's why I don't wanna set up a whole rig for now.
But in the meantime I would like to get something for cheap like a usb miner one that can allows me to mine.

There are no USB ASIC miners for DCR. You have to mine with a GPU.

Get some Radeon r9's (280/x 290/x) as the prices have been going down a bit lately with new GPUs dropping soon this year.

There will be a cloud mining if there is a demand and decred is popular but you wont see one for some time unless some one/company is willing to convert a small section of their infrastucture for a few million.
